Occasionally, I get a really great idea. Like the time I decided to start making green ice cubes to throw in smoothies. Or tried making guacamole with strawberries. Well, these juicy, JUICY turkey burgers were another great idea. Why are they so juicy, you ask?? Grated apple! I know. It sounds a little odd at first, but apples and poultry are a perfect compliment to each other. And I often grate some onion into ground beef to make juicier burgers, so I thought, why not try something similar for ground turkey. Like I said, GREAT idea 🙂
I was using 99% lean turkey meat (not because we always eat super healthy – it’s just what I had on hand) so I added 2-3 tablespoons of natural grapeseed oil (or you can use olive oil) while sautéing the onions. The grapeseed oil is a healthy fat rich in Vitamin E and Omega-6 fatty acid (Linoleic acid) and also helped keep my turkey burgers from drying out and added tons of good flavor. Seriously – I don’t know if I mentioned it, but these are some delicious and juicy burgers!
Note: Buns and cheese are totally optional. We like to serve ours topped with cheese over a salad – but feel free to top yours however you’d like!
