You may or may not have noticed that I took a few weeks off from blogging. I was still cooking, baking, and working on a few DIY projects, but I was also planning, organizing, cleaning, and preparing for the upcoming homeschool year. And I think – or I should say that I hope – I am ready.
When people ask me why I am homeschooling, the easiest thing for me to say is that it is because my son has severe food allergies. People get that and they don’t think I’m crazy or need any more explanation. But to be honest, that’s not the real reason.
Initially, I hated this Jen Hatmaker quote because it seemed so dramatic. But the more I read it… well I still think its dramatic… but I love it. And I realized, this is the main reason I am choosing to homeschool.
I am homeschooling so my boys can have the time and space to just be little boys. I am homeschooling because I think I can teach them in ways no one else can (even though I have a degree in Marketing and not Education!). And I am homeschooling for the sheer amount of time it will allow me to spend with my boys. All of them. Together. I am homeschooling because I want to enjoy today with my children.
Right now, I can’t say that I am going to homeschool forever. And homeschooling might not be a good fit for you and your family. My husband and I are open to making changes if it is the best interest of our boys. We will take it a year at a time. But for now… I think I am ready, I am nervous, and I am very excited for the school days ahead!
