We have an unspoken “take your shoes off at the door” rule at our house. Mostly because I have little boys who lounge, play and wrestle on the floor ALL. THE. TIME. And I hate the thought of them getting up close and personal with a germ-filled rug. But since this is an unspoken rule, not all of our guests know to follow it. I’d love to buy a handmade sign like those from Primitive HodgePodge that reminds everyone to please take off their shoes. But in the meantime, I’ve created a natural carpet freshener that helps me feel a little less worried about my boys constant rolling across the floor!
The recipe for this Eucalyptus Carpet Freshener couldn’t be simpler and trust me – it works so well. The freshener gets its disinfecting kick from Eucalyptus oil which is known to have antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties.
AND… it smells so good. So there’s that. 🙂
To make this easy Eucalyptus Carpet Freshener you will need:
2 cups baking soda
1 cup cornstarch
20 drops eucalyptus essential oil
Here is what you do:
Mix together the baking soda and cornstarch. Slowly add the essential oil, stirring as you go. Store the mixture in a glass jar or any kind of air tight container and it should last for a VERY long time.
To freshen your carpet: Sprinkle the freshener directly onto the carpet or rug. Leave on for up to 30 minutes, then slowly vacuum it up.
