I have a major sweet tooth. MAJOR. And my sweet tooth is partial to chocolate anything. So you’ll see a lot of chocolate in some form or another on this blog!
Years ago, I used to make Giada’s Nutella Ravioli all the time. Like once a month 🙂 But since having kids, making anything that starts with a vat of hot oil is out of the cards.
Then, I got a brilliant idea to bake some form of dessert wontons instead. I happened to have some homemade eggless cookie dough in my fridge (because I’m the person that likes to eat 1/4 cup of cookie dough before bed…) and voila – Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Wontons are born!! 🙂
To make these Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Wontons you will need:
3 tablespoons butter, softened
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup flour
1 tablespoon milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 cup chocolate chips
12-15 wonton wrappers
2 tablespoons cream or whole milk
cinnamon/sugar for sprinkling
butter or coconut oil to grease the baking sheet
Here is what you do:
To make the eggless cookie dough, cream the butter and sugar together with an electric handheld mixer or by hand. Beat in the flour, then add the milk. If you find that your dough is a little too stiff, add more milk. Or if it is too runny, add a bit more flour. You want it to be on the firmer side. Add in your vanilla and chocolate chips, stirring until it is just combined. Then refrigerate your dough. It could be in their for days! But a good 30 minutes should get it cold enough to not instantly melt out of the wontons in the oven.
When you’re ready to make the wontons, preheat your oven to 425. Grease a baking sheet or you can use a SilPat silicone liner. On a clean cutting board or plate lay out a few wonton wrappers. (You’ll want to do this in batches so they don’t dry out.) Using your finger or a pastry brush, cover the outer edge of the wrapper with cream. Place a teaspoon of the cookie dough in the center. To create the wonton shape, I fold up two corners at a time, pinching them in the center. The cream helps “glue” the wonton to itself.
Place each wonton on the prepared cookie sheet. Brush the folded wontons with cream again and sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar. Bake for 7-8 minutes or just until they start to turn golden… and preferably before the cookie dough erupts out the top like a sweet and gooey volcano.:):) I just sprinkled mine with powdered sugar to serve, but chocolate sauce drizzled on top would also be delicious!
Hope you enjoy!
